Burj Khalifa is the “crown jewel” of the 500-acre mixed‑use development, Downtown Dubai. At 828 meters, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. Besides standing tallest in the World, there are many other a little more remarkable achievements that by the massive structure that you might not know about.
The Burj Khalifa has a world record for the highest installation of an aluminum and glass facade, at a height of 512 meters. This may seem insignificant to some of you, but to describe this in simpler terms, the total weight of all this aluminum used for the tower is equivalent to that of FIVE A380 aircraft. the total length of stainless steel bull nose fins is 293 TIMES THE HEIGHT OF THE EIFFEL TOWER!
This true wonder of a tower contains the world’s first 160-room Armani Hotel, in addition to the world’s HIGHEST swimming pool, located on Level 76.
Just to make sure that you are completely mind-blown of how spectacular the tower really is – the amount of rebar used for the tower, over 31,400 metric tons, if laid end to end, will extend over a quarter of the way around the World!
One can only imagine the great deal of coordination this massive landmark project would require. Harmonization between the engineers, consultants, contractors, etc. was vital for the successful execution of such a project. Turner International Middle East, who were tasked with project management for Burj Khalifa, had to do just that. Plus, they had to track and manage the hundreds of thousands of documents that were generated by the multi-billion dollar project, including submittals, requests for information (RFIs), drawing packages and many more.
Turner needed a strong project management solution that would reduce the risk of project delays as well as was capable of handling SIX YEARS worth of records and a huge number of different jobs within the overall project.
SMART USE OF TECH
As a solution for this, Turner chose Trimble’s Prolog Manager, as it fulfilled all their project needs in terms of managing the documents, securing the data and meeting their reporting requirements.
This smart use of technology helped Turner to ensure that the consultants and contractors communicated effectively. It helped them to do their job in terms of following up on all the respective parties, making sure that documentation was flowing smoothly between them and rectifying situations before they caused delays. The threat of delays often arrived when a document needed to be reviewed by a second party. For example, a contractor might submit an inquiry that would need action or response from the consultant.
Prolog Manager provided visibility into these interactions, which allowed Turner to step in and keep the construction moving and on schedule.
